Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

While you might not think put vegetarian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur in the same sentence being that Malaysia in general has some of the most unhealthy food in SE Asia. But Malaysia is a foodie paradise and that includes vegetarian and vegan food. There are plenty of great options with restaurants that have vegetarian and vegan options and restaurants that have an entire vegetarian or vegan menu!

While living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I was able to try out a lot of vegetarian restaurants. Here are five of the best vegetarian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur.

Sala

Sala has multiple locations around the city and offers delivery and pickup through the Grab APP. The thing I love about Sala Vegan Restaurant is the variety they offer because while they do have pre-made bowls and wraps, you can make your own and add anything to the bowls. Choose from a variety of rice, beans, vegetables, fruit, seeds, dressings, etc. to make your meal different every single time.

Hungry Tapir

Address: 135, Jalan Petaling, Chinatown
Hours: 12pm-10pm (Closed Mondays)

This Malaysian restaurant serves up delicious vegetarian versions of traditional Malaysian dishes. The menu features local dishes with a twist like satay, roti canai, laksa, and nasi lemak. As well as classic breakfast entrees like avocado toast, pancakes, and benedicts and salads, pasta, burgers, and flatbreads. Everything on the menu is delicious and the staff is very knowledgeable [not as friendly as other spots, though]. The Hungry Tapir is definitely the most trendy vegetarian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur.

Hijau Kuala Lumpur

Address: 80, Jalan Sultan, REXKL, Chinatown
Hours: 12pm-10pm

Hijau Kuala Lumpur is located in the ultra-trendy REXKL food court on the main floor. Hijau puts a spin on traditional Malay dishes like Nasi Lemak, Laksam, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Padang, and Satay while also offering fresh delicious salads. Once you order your food at the counter, you can find a place to sit anywhere within the food court and pick up your food to go or hang out and listen to live music.

Blue Boy Vegetarian Food Court

Address: Lorong Pudu 4, Jln Tong Shin, Bukit Bintang
Hours: 8am-4pm

Blue Boy Vegetarian is a hole-in-the-wall hidden gem alley food court restaurant. I was surprised to find vegetarian dishes here. But they offer a lot of traditional Malaysian dishes with tofu in place of pork, beef, or chicken. It’s a great place for both meat eaters and non-meat eaters to dine at.
