Must-Have APPs for Living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Are you getting ready to move to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? Here are the must-have apps for traveling through or living in Kuala Lumpur. They’ll make your life so much easier and best of all…they’re FREE!

9 Must-Have APPs for Living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

City Rail Map

Navigate Kuala Lumpur like a local with the City Rail APP. It’s a great resource for using the city’s very affordable public transportation. The APP identifies where you are and what stations are closest to you. It also allows you to look up a specific address to map out which stations and transfers you’ll take.

TuneTalk

When you buy your TuneTalk SIM card at the airport or 7-Eleven, the customer service representative will help you set up your account on the APP. This allows you to easily manage your account. You can top up, add a service, or see how long you have left until the end of your service.

Grab

Grab is SE Asia’s APP for everything. Book a driver (similar to Uber/Lyft/DiDi), order food from restaurants around the city, book a hotel or experience, and so much more! Every time you use a Grab service, you get rewards that unlock offers including discount vouchers.

Shopee

Shopee is the number one platform for online shopping in SE Asia. It’s an easy and fast way to shop online. It’s similar to Alibaba and eBay.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is the #1 messaging APP in the world, so I’d be surprised if you’re moving to Kuala Lumpur and don’t already have it. But regardless, I’m still adding it to the list just in case. HCMC is full of international ex-pats, so it’s no surprise WhatsApp is the most used messaging APP between friends here.

Google Translate

While most people speak enough English, it’s always a great idea to download the Google Translate APP. The APP allows you to type, text, or take a photo and translates it to your native language and vice versa if you are trying to communicate with someone. I recommend downloading the language offline, so even if you don’t have WiFi or service, you can still use the translator. Do this in advance, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to find something, pay for something, or go somewhere.

ClassPass

ClassPass is an APP that is available worldwide, so it’s a great option if you’re traveling! It’s a monthly membership that provides you with access to thousands of studios, gyms, and spas. It’s ideal if you don’t want to sign up for one gym and want to have access to multiple activities. Activities range from yoga, boxing, CrossFit, indoor cycling, etc.

GetYourGuide

Booking a tour in Kuala Lumpur or any city around the world for that matter? You’ll definitely want to download the GetYourGuide APP. It’s perfect for booking activities like walking tours, private or group tours, or day trips.

Facebook

Most businesses in Kuala Lumpur are not on Yelp and some do not even have websites. They mainly operate on Facebook Business Pages. Therefore, if you don’t already have a Facebook or don’t have it on your phone, you’ll want to download it now.
