US Road Trip Day 6: Johnson City, TN to Asheville, NC

Miles Driven: 120

States: Tennessee ·  North Carolina

The Great Smoky Mountains

Interstate 26 East took us straight to Asheville, NC, but not before catching the breathtaking scenery thanks to the Great Smoky Mountains! This is the only interstate section in the state to be selected as a scenic byway. The Smokies, (do I sound like a local?)  are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains and form part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. They are a mountain range along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina that have been designated a World Heritage Site.

Eating and Drinking Our Way Through Asheville

Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina. With a vibrant art scene and historic architecture, I can’t believe I’ve never explored this city until now. Asheville is the perfect city for a girl’s weekend, there is an endless amount of things to do with something for everyone!

We spent our day restaurant & bar hopping, dipping into art galleries, and hanging out in the park watching Chris and Zöe battle it out hula-hooping.

Cheers to LIFE

Cheers to LIFE

We spent our last evening in Tennessee with our newish friends, playing LIFE, discussing life, and popping bottles. Okay, just one. It was a special one though.

Rewind to 6 years prior, I was wine tasting in Italy, a little tipsy, and purchased a few bottles of wine. I consumed all of them, but one.  I was saving it for a special occasion. Graduation night seemed like the perfect occasion! One problem, I completely forgot and didn’t find it until my move, deep in the back of my closet. (You’re probably asking who keeps wine in their closet right? Well, when you have lots of wine nights, you don’t want to mistake the ‘special occasion do not drink bottle‘, for a regular wine bottle!) So again, I saved it for a special occasion, my move from Florida and adventure to China. Repeat bottle in closet and my forgetfulness during my packing and moving, and here we are.

Now, 6 years later, this long-awaited bottle of wine was ready to be opened. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people along my adventure to have shared it with. Cheers 🥂
